The Kerala Story box office collection day 22: Despite numerous bans and protests, Adah Sharma ‘s The Kerala Story has smashed multiple box office records. However, the film has reached its all-time low at the box office after such constant highs.

After crossing Rs 213.17 crore on day 21, the film raked in Rs 2.60 crore on day 22 at the ticket counter, its lowest collection since opening day. With this, the Adah Sharma starrer now stands at Rs 216.07 crore at the box office.

Directed by Sudipto Sen , the film stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihan, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani. Having hit the big screens on May 5 this year, the film follows the story of a group of women from Kerala who were converted to Islam and forced to join the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

Sudipto Sen’s directorial film The Kerala Story sparked controversy after its trailer stated that 32,000 women were recruited by the Islamic State (IS) terror group in Kerala over the years. While the statement has been altered in the trailer, the film continues to receive backlash for allegedly propagating the idea of ‘love jihad’ through the film. Both the Kerala government and the Opposition leaders demanded the film be banned in the state. A petition had even been filed at the Supreme Court seeking a stay on its release on grounds of ‘worst kind of hate speech’ and ‘audio-visual propaganda.’ However, The Supreme Court refused to entertain the request.

Following its release, while it has been banned in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, other states like Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have made the film tax-free.
