Tempers flare in Eagles-Commanders showdown as players are pulled apart in fiery scenes

Philadelphia Eagles star AJ Brown was involved in a heated scuffle with two Washington Commanders players as tempers flared during Sunday’s NFC Championship game.

After Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts tush-pushed his way to a touchdown at the end of the first half, Brown became embroiled in a fiery tussling match with Washington duo Marshon Lattimore and Frankie Luvu.

Their brief melee ensued after Lattimore pushed the Philadelphia wide receiver away to block him from entering the end zone, before they exchanged vicious shoves and grabbed hold of one another.

As they pushed and pulled in the end zone, Luvu also tried to grab hold of Brown and help his teammate, only for officials to quickly intervene and split the trio up.

Despite three players being involved, referees only called a flag on Lattimore for his part in the scuffle.

Hurts’ touchdown moved the Eagles 20-12 ahead in Philadelphia, where a place in next month’s Super Bowl is up for grabs.

The hosts are looking to reach football’s biggest showpiece for the second time in three years, while Washington is hunting its first Super Bowl appearance since 1991.

Should the Commanders fight back and win the NFC Championship, Jayden Daniels will also become the first ever rookie quarterback to make it to the Super Bowl.

Before Sunday’s game got underway, NFL fans loved the performance of the national anthem at Lincoln Financial Field.

But it was the introduction of an eagle during the performance by Mary Kate Morrissey –  currently starring as Elphaba in the Broadway hit musical, Wicked – that stole the show.

During the performance, Lincoln, a live bald eagle, soared through the air to huge cheers from the home supporters.

And at the conclusion of the anthem, four F16 jets from the 177th Fighter Wing did a flyover.

‘I’m not an Eagles fan but their national anthem is the absolute best with the bald eagle flying in the stadium. It can’t get any better,’ one fan posted on X.

Another said: ‘Boys got an eagle flying around during the national anthem… Eagles by 10+.’
