HYDERABAD: Popular Telugu TV actor Chandrakanth alias Chandu died by suicide at his apartment in Hyderabad’s Manikonda area on Friday night, police said.
He died after Pavithra Jayaram, also an actor, with whom he was in a live-in relationship, died in a road accident at Kurnool on May 12.
Pavithra and Chandu acted together in “Trinayani serial“, which was one of the most watched serials on TV.
Chandu acted in TV serials like “Karthika Deepam” and “Radhamma Pelli”, apart from “Trinayani”. His wife, from whom he separated recently, said he took the extreme step as he was depressed after Pavithra’s death.
Police said Chandu’s family was concerned about his well-being after he stopped responding to phone calls. They went to do a welfare check on him at his apartment only to find him dead. Although he did not leave behind a suicide note, police found WhatsApp messages he sent to friends stating he did not wish to live any longer.
He is survived by his wife and two children. Police registered a case of suspicious death in the matter.
