The Indian cricket team has transitioned into a new space with the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the side. This decision came after India won the T20 World Cup.

But the results that are being generated under Gambhir’s stint, though it is early doors have largely been volatile. While a few are happy with the intent that Gambhir bought, others are worried about the tendency of the team to stumble.
In the first T20 against Zimbabwe, India couldn’t chase a paltry total of 120. But later came back to win the series though.

Last night, India needed to chase 230 runs target set by Sri Lanka. Towards the end, India needed 1 run to win with two wickets in hand and a disaster happened as the men in blue couldn’t chase it down.
If India is to be regarded as a champion side and a fierce competitor for Australia, England and South Africa, clinical performances are needed all along. Failing to chase 120 against Zimbabwe, and not getting 1 run against Sri Lanka are all causes of concerns.

It is true that no team can win all the games they play, but the nature of India’s defeats in the mentioned games shows the lack of maturity in the side. This is a key aspect that Gambhir will have to address sooner than later.
