Taylor Swift’s rep rips into Justin Baldoni over subpoena, calls it a ‘clickbait’ move: ‘She was on tour, not on set’ | Music News

Taylor Swift has now officially been dragged into Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s, legal war linked to their recent film It Ends With Us. On May 9, the Cruel Summer singer was subpoenaed in the case at the request of Baldoni’s team, who filed a $400 million lawsuit against the Gossip Girl star in retaliation for her December sexual assault lawsuit against him. Baldoni even name-dropped the pop star in his lawsuit multiple times, calling out her involvement in creative decisions alongside Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds. Following this, reports of a potential feud between the friends also emerged, with sources saying Swift is distancing herself from the mess. However, now, Swift’s team has immediately snapped back, blasting the subpoena as a “tabloid clickbait move.”

On May 10, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 14 time Grammy winner’s team responded to the singer’s subpoena and said, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film.” The spokesperson added how Swift didn’t even get to see the movie immediately after the release, as she “was travelling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”

Swift did give her permission to use one of her songs in the film, and according to her reps, that was the only involvement she had in It Ends With Us. Earlier, Baldoni released a set of screenshots attached to his lawsuit as proof that Lively involved both Swift and Reynolds in a controversial ‘rooftop’ scene in the film, even calling them her ‘dragons,’ referring to popular Game of Thrones characters. “The connection Taylor had to this film was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet,’” the rep said. Swift’s team has long called her involvement in the case a cheap move by Baldoni’s team to keep public attention on the case. Now, her rep said, “Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”

Earlier in the month, a source close to the case told PEOPLE that Swift and Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine co-star, Hugh Jackman, might be called into court to officially testify as witnesses. For Jackman, it was likely because Baldoni’s team even blamed the MCU movie for mocking him with the character “Nicepool.” Speaking of Swift, he claims that Blake suggested that Taylor supported a rewrite of the script, and because of that, he felt pressured to go along with her changes. According to Baldoni’s team, he wasn’t just dealing with Blake, he was going up against two of the most powerful celebs in the world

A rep for Blake also slammed Baldoni’s side, saying they’re treating this like a circus: “This is a very serious legal matter, not Barnum & Bailey Circus.”They were especially furious that Baldoni’s lawyer even joked about holding Blake’s deposition at Madison Square Garden like some kind of public show. “The defendants continue to publicly intimidate, bully, shame, and attack women’s rights and reputations.” Baldoni’s team was accused of trying to strike down a California victims’ rights law, calling it unconstitutional. “The disturbing actions by a billionaire, men who made their careers as ‘female allies,’ and their team continue to show their true colours.” The trial is expected to start on March 9, 2026, in the  US District Court for the Southern District of New York
