Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris for US president after Trump debate

Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for US president, making her support known via Instagram shortly after the US presidential debate. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift wrote.
The cultural icon with a massive global following, shared her reaction to the debate and revealed her voting choice. “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” Swift wrote to her 283 million followers.“ I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Swift’s endorsement came in the wake of controversy surrounding AI-generated images that falsely portrayed her and her fans endorsing Donald Trump.
Addressing these images, Swift expressed her concerns about the dangers of misinformation fueled by artificial intelligence. “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter,” she said.
The singer also encouraged her followers to research the candidates’ positions on issues that matter most to them. “I watched the debate and urge you to do your own research on the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most,” Swift advised.
In a parting note, Swift signed off with “Childless cat lady,” a reference to a derogatory comment made by Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance in 2021. Vance had referred to senior Democrats as “a bunch of childless cat ladies” during an interview with Tucker Carlson, a remark that Swift’s sign-off appears to address directly.
Swift’s endorsement comes immediately after the debate, offering Harris a significant boost from one of the most influential voices in entertainment. The singer also used the opportunity to encourage her followers to engage in the election process. “Research topics that matter to you the most,” she advised, emphasizing the importance of informed voting.
