The investigation is part of a broader crackdown on betting and gaming applications, with a total of 299 entities being investigated, including 76 linked to Chinese nationals.

The case intensified following the arrest of Sahil Khan in April 2024, who claimed to be a brand promoter for another betting brand, denying direct involvement.
Other celebrities like Kapil Sharma, Huma Qureshi, and Hina Khan have also been called to clarify their roles in promoting the Mahadev app and the payments they received, which the ED suspects may be proceeds of crime.
The allegations stemmed from a cyber crimes unit FIR filed by Kohima Police, charging individuals with duping investors through promises of excessive returns from cryptocurrency mining.
The ED reported that the HPZ Token app deceived investors by promising returns of ₹4,000 per day for three months on an investment of ₹57,000, but later sought more investments without providing promised returns.
Nationwide searches by the agency led to the seizure of assets valued at ₹455 crore.
