Suresh Gopi’s historic victory in the Thrissur parliamentary constituency marked a significant milestone as the first BJP MP elected from Kerala.

New Delhi: Suresh Gopi, Kerala’s first BJP Member of Parliament (MP), who took oath as a Union Minister on Sunday, is reportedly considering relinquishing his ministerial duties. In a conversation with a regional channel in Delhi after his swearing-in, Gopi clarified that he hadn’t sought a ministerial role and would request the party to release him from the position due to prior commitments.
Citing his commitments to upcoming film projects, he said right now he has to fulfil these professional engagements. “I will continue to serve as an MP for Thrissur,” he affirmed.

In the recently concluded parliamentary polls, Gopi won Kerala’s Thrissur seat. It was the first time that the saffron party opened its account in the southern state. In the polls, he defeated CPI’s VS Sunil Kumar.
Suresh Gopi made his acting debut as a child in 1965. Gopi has starred in several popular films including Manichithrathazhu, A Northern Story of Valor and Oru CBI Diary Kurippu. According to his election affidavit, his profession has been listed as a Cinema Artist. His total declared assets are Rs 18.6 crore which includes Rs 8.9 crore in movable assets and Rs 9.7 crore in immovable assets. His total declared income is Rs 4.6 crore of which Rs 4.4 crore is self-income.
