The Supreme Court of India heard the petition on the Tirupati Laddu issue this morning. The bench consisting of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan heard the case and ordered an appointment of an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the issue.
The magistrate ordered a five-member SIT, which includes two CBI officers, two officials representing the AP government and one from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It was added that the SIT investigation will be monitored by the Director of CBI.

The Court explained that it issued the order to address the concerns of the millions of devotees of the Lord Venkateshwara. It also made it clear that this decision is not meant to question the credibility of the current SIT members, appointed by the state government.
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, who was representing the central government, said that if there is any element of truth in the allegations of adulteration of Tirumala Laddu’s ghee, it is unacceptable. He further added that the SIT formed by the AP government is independent.
