Addressing concerns over bone density and muscle mass loss owing to the extended stay in space, Sunita Williams said she and Butch both love to workout and have a daily workout regime. If they do not work out every day, they will lose bone density. Suni said she generally wakes up at 6.30 am while Butch is an early-riser and wakes up at 4.30am. Their exercise regime includes cardio vascular, running on the treadmill, using a machine to perform deadlifts and squats etc.
Butch said in space there’s no joint aches because there is no pressure on any joint and that’s ‘very easy’.
Sunita Williams said her perspective changed staying at the ISS and she now can’t imagine why people on Earth do not get along with other. “It’s the one planet we have and we should all really be happy that we’re here together, cause that’s it — that’s our place,” she said.
Both of them said how they miss their family but they are not dejected over their extended stay as they have been trained like this — to face any kind of difficulty, Butch said it doesn’t matter when they would be able to back home and they would work the best every day at the ISS.
They went to the ISS in June for eight days’ experiments but the Starliner developed many technical snags and returned to Earth without them. They will fly back home on SpaceX next year. They said they have requested for their ballot so that they can cast their votes for the US election in November.
