Sunil Gavaskar drops a massive statement on Virat Kohli’s selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s dream of a maiden IPL trophy ended after they faced a defeat against Gujarat Titans on the last day of the group stage round. Despite RCB’s exit, Virat Kohli has had a phenomenal season.

The 34-year-old crossed the 600 runs mark for only the 3rd time in his IPL career and gathered 639 runs in 14 games. Virat struck two centuries and six fifties.

On the other side, Virat has not played a single T20I game for India since the Men in Blue’s exit from T20 World Cup 2022, as the management has decided to go forward with a younger lot for the upcoming T20I World Cup.

However, with Virat returning to form in the shortest format of the game, the selectors face a big challenge whether to put Virat into the scheme of things or not. Several experts weighed in their views on the matter, and the latest to jump onto the bandwagon is former India opener Sunil Gavaskar.

The 73-year-old remarked that it is pointless to talk about it now, as there is another IPL before the 2024 T20 World Cup, and Virat’s form should be assessed at that time.

“Virat’s form should be observed after IPL 2024. There is no point in talking about it now. Had there been a T20 international tournament in June, I would have said yes to Virat’s place in the team.”

“Virat has been in top-notch form, and If I was a selector and India were playing a major tournament this year, I would, without doubt, pick him in the squad.”
