Stree 2 – Surprise Box Office Challenge for Allu Arjun?

A film featuring not-so-big stars like Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao is making waves at the Indian box office. Stree 2, set to release on August 15, is poised to create chaos at the box office.

Initially, projections estimated an opening day collection of around 25 crores, but the film’s advance bookings indicate it could easily surpass 35 crores and might even reach 40 crores net on its first day.

Including paid previews, the opening day figure could approach an impressive 50 crores net—a milestone achieved by only a select few major films like Jawan, Pathaan, WAR, Thugs of Hindostan, and Animal. What makes this even more remarkable is that Stree 2 is a medium-budget film, unlike those event films.

The only other film that could challenge this number is Singham Again, slated for a Diwali release. However, it faces a clash with another anticipated sequel, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Additionally, Diwali day isn’t the most favorable for box office collections, as evening festivities tend to hamper ticket sales.

Given this scenario, there’s a strong chance that Stree 2 might remain the biggest Hindi opener of 2024.

Interestingly, the most awaited Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arjun and releasing on December 6, will find itself competing with a film headlined by a female star, Shraddha Kapoor, for the highest opening in Hindi this year—something no one expected.

It is not Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, or Hrithik Roshan, but Shraddha Kapoor Vs Allu Arjun.

Pushpa 2 would be expected to open at a minimum of 50 crores on its first day which would be a non-holiday. If the trailer clicks, then Pushpa 2 might even challenge SRKs last year’s all-time blockbuster Jawan’s opening day record of 65 crores in Hindi.

However, on an all-India and worldwide scale, Pushpa 2’s real competition this year will be Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD. Kalki 2898 AD scored 86 crore net in India and a worldwide gross of 160 crores on its first day. Pushpa 2 would be targeting 200 crore worldwide gross on its opening day.
