Stock Market LIVE: Sensex, Nifty mildly in red; HDFC Bank slips 2%, RVNL rises 3% on MSCI update | News on Markets



Stock Market LIVE updates today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024: Indian benchmark indices — BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 — started slightly lower on Tuesday. 


The Sensex index was quoting at 79,607, down 42 points in early deals, while the Nifty50 index was at 24,337, down 10 points. 

HDFC Bank was the top laggard on the Sensex, down 2.5 per cent, after the latest MSCI rebalancing announcement said the weight of the lender would be increased in two tranches against expectations of one single push.

That apart, Asian Paints, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Titan Company, and Tech M were the other losers. 

On the upside, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, and Adani Ports were the top gainers.

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap index gained 0.35 per cent, and the BSE SmallCap index added 0.5 per cent. 

Among sectors, the Nifty Financial Services was down 0.4 per cent, while the Nifty Realty index was up 0.4 per cent.


MSCI Rebalance: August review


Shares of RVNL, Vodafone Idea, Dixon Technologies, Oil India, Prestige Estates, Oracle Financial and Zydus Lifesciences will be included in the MSCI India Index as part of the latest rejig.


Bandhan Bank is the only Indian stock that will be excluded from the index.
