Can Sunny Deol’s roar shake up the box office again? Or has the metro crowd already checked out?
After delivering one of the biggest hits in recent times with Gadar 2, Sunny Deol is back with a bang — or is he?

His latest action-packed film Jaat, directed by Gopichand Malineni in his Hindi debut, released with a lot of noise, but can it sustain beyond the initial spark?
Rs 15.75 crore in 2 days — Solid start or early warning sign? According to trade experts, Jaat opened with a Rs 9 crore net on day one — not bad at all for a mass-heavy action film.

But then came Friday and the film dropped to Rs 6.75 crore, taking the total to Rs 15.75 crore net in two days.
Now, here’s the big question — is this just the calm before the weekend storm or is the storm already fading?

While the drop may not be huge, it does indicate one thing — the buzz isn’t universal.
Turns out, Jaat has found love — but not everywhere. It’s working in smaller towns and North Indian belts like UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Central India.
That’s Sunny Deol’s stronghold and his macho avatar still pulls crowds in those regions. But what about the metros?
Mumbai? Cold.Hyderabad? Silent.Chennai? Nowhere to be seen.
In fact, trade analysts confirm that metro audiences have rejected the film, with major urban centers showing poor footfalls, especially in multiplexes. That’s a big problem for any film that wants to go the distance at the box office.
Here’s the twist: The extended 4-day weekend might just be Jaat’s savior.
Thanks to Ambedkar Jayanti on Monday, the film has a chance to add to its numbers.
Early Saturday trends show a jump towards Rs 10 crore and if Sunday and Monday follow suit, the film can end the weekend with Rs 35-38 crore.
Despite this window of opportunity, trade sources say Jaat will still end its first week around Rs 55 crore — not bad but far from the Rs 80 crore it needs to be considered an average film.
And that’s the bigger problem — Kesari 2 is next week. So Jaat has just one week to shine before it loses screens and shows. If it doesn’t milk the next 3 days, it’s over.
Let’s be honest — a hit in the North can’t carry a film anymore without strong support from metros and urban youth.
And Jaat, despite its action and Sunny’s presence, hasn’t gone beyond its comfort zone.
If it goes below 75 crore, trade experts will call it a flop. It needs a miracle in the next 72 hours.
The masses have spoken they love Jaat in the heartland. But the question remains:
Can that love translate into enough footfalls to get it over the line?Or has the lack of urban support already sealed its fate?
