The government of Andhra Pradesh issued important orders to village volunteers across the state. It instructed volunteers to delete WhatsApp and Telegram groups created by cluster members to inform about various welfare schemes introduced by the previous government.

Many people have accused volunteers of adding members to these clusters without permission and using the groups to spread fake news against the current government.

Taking these complaints seriously, the government ordered volunteers to delete these groups and channels immediately and to submit a report on the same by this evening.

The government instructed the district collectors to ensure that the groups were deleted in all villages. Secretariat officials were asked to raise awareness among people about the fake news circulating on social media through these WhatsApp and Telegram channels.

Recently, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu chaired a review meeting on the volunteer system in the state. Reportedly, he opined that there is a need for significant changes in the system. He stated that the government would take steps to utilize volunteers’ services more efficiently.

The government is focusing on capacity building and skill development for volunteers. Thus, they are collecting the educational qualifications and age details of volunteers.

It is heard that the plan is to use volunteers more effectively by providing them with training to develop their skills.
