Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain, has come to the defense of Sarfaraz Khan after the Indian batter was left out of the West Indies series. Ganguly, who has previously worked with Sarfaraz Khan at Delhi Capitals, expressed his support for the talented player.

The recent announcement of Team India’s Test and ODI squads for the upcoming tour of the West Indies caused quite a stir. While the omission of Cheteshwar Pujara from the Test squad received significant attention, the continued absence of Sarfaraz Khan, despite his exceptional performances in the Ranji Trophy, left fans and former cricketers disappointed.

Sarfaraz Khan has been a consistent top performer in the Ranji Trophy for the past few years, yet he is still awaiting his international debut.

This absence has raised concerns and sparked criticism from various quarters, including Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly not only criticized the decision to exclude Sarfaraz once again but also highlighted the potential of another promising young player, Abhimanyu Easwaran from Bengal. Easwaran’s impressive performance in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season caught Ganguly’s attention. In eight matches, Easwaran amassed 798 runs at an impressive average of 66.50, including three centuries and as many half-centuries.

Sarfaraz Khan played only six matches for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy due to illness. Despite the limited opportunities, he showcased his exceptional talent by scoring 556 runs at an outstanding average of 92.66.

“If you don’t play Sarfaraz against pacers, how do you know?” said.

“If he had problems against fast bowlers, he wouldn’t have scored so many runs in Ranji Trophy. I personally feel he has no problems and should be given a chance.”
