Simone Biles refuses to be downbeat despite disappointing end to Paris Olympics: ‘I’ve accomplished way more than my wildest dreams’

Simone Biles did not exit the Paris Olympics in the dominant fashion most have come to expect from the 27-year-old.

A fall on balance beam and an apparent injury in warmups on floor exercise limited Biles to a single silver medal between the two events.

Yet, Biles did not have downbeat attitude has her third Olympiad came to a close.

‘I’ve accomplished way more than my wildest dreams, not just at this Olympics, but in the sport,’ Biles said. ‘So I can’t be mad at my performances. A couple years ago, I didn’t think I’d be back here at an Olympic Games.’

‘So competing and then walking away with four medals, I’m not mad about it. I’m pretty proud of myself, and it’s always so exciting to compete,’ Biles continued.

Biles did win three Gold medals in Paris in the team, all-around, and vault disciplines.

What would be a tremendous accomplishment for most other athletes could be look at with a glass-half empty mindset.

‘Obviously wasn’t my best performances but at the end of the day, whoever medaled, medaled,’ Biles said.

‘And that’s what’s so exciting, because you just never know with gymnastics,’ Biles added. ‘So I’m not very upset or anything about my performance at the Olympics. I’m actually very happy, proud and even more excited that it’s over.’

Biles missteps on the floor exercise only put her 0.033 back of Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, who won gold.

Alongside American teammate Jordan Chiles, who got bronze on the floor exercise, the trio took a photo on the podium were the pair of Americans bowed to the Brazilian.

‘Rebeca, she’s so amazing – she’s queen,’ Biles said. ‘And first, it was an all black podium, so that was super exciting for us. But then Jordan was like, “Should we bow to her?” And I was like, “Absolutely.” … It was just the right thing to do.’
