Tamil Nadu Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Industries, Tha. Mo. Anbarasan, said on Friday (March 28, 2025), that 3,050 silk farmers will benefit from the establishment of silk-growing farms at a cost of ₹29,46,88,000.
During a debate on Demands for Grants for the Silk Development and Handicraft Departments in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Anbarasan said silk farms will be able to provide conducive climatic conditions and appropriate humidity to grow silkworms in a hygienic manner and harvest quality silk cocoons.
“The silk farmers who produce high-yield mulberry varieties will be given financial assistance of ₹6.82 crore. As for government units functioning under the Silk Development Department, buildings and deep wells will be constructed at Kalkondappalli, Thali, Uthanapalli, Melagiri, Hosur, and Avalapalli,” he said.
Mr. Anbarasan further said, “New buildings will be constructed in Hosur, Thalavadi in Erode district.” The Silk Development department will also provide machines to produce seri-compost, bio-fertiliser to allow for mulberry growth for ₹4.82 crore.”
