Siddaramaiah hints at local body polls

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has hinted at local body elections being conducted within the next few months.

Speaking at a function at Yelandur on Saturday, Mr. Siddaramaiah said people had backed the Congress in the State as the party had rolled out a slew of guarantee schemes that were beneficial to them.

He said the BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) were opposed to the guarantee schemes as they benefitted the poor. “They are opposed to the poor and want to perpetuate an unequal society, which the Congress is opposed to. Hence they are foisting false cases on me. But as long as people are with me nobody can finish me politically,” said Mr. Siddaramaiah.

Continuing in the same vein, the Chief Minister said it was due to the blessings of the people of Karnataka that the Congress was in power and had won the byelections as well. ‘’The poor, minorities, and Dalits are with us as our guarantee schemes have benefited them. In the days ahead, sometime in January/February 2025, there will be elections to zilla panchayats and taluk panchayats and please continue to bless us,” said Mr. Siddaramaiah, hinting at the impending local body elections in the State.
