AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s executive committee reversed Tuesday its decision to excommunicate Narain Singh Chaura, who attempted to assassinate Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) functionary Sukhbir Singh Badal outside Amritsar’s Golden Temple on December 4.
The December 9 resolution urging the Akal Takht jathedar to excommunicate Chaura from the Panth was annulled without citing any reason for doing so.
The executive committee also discussed the killing of three suspected pro-Khalistan operatives from Punjab in a shootout with police in UP and demanded a judicial inquiry into the deaths.
The meeting, chaired by SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, passed a resolution that questions if the encounter was a deliberate attempt to target youths from Punjab. Another decision was to extended by a month the term of the panel tasked with probing allegations levelled by a person against Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.
