WHILE Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 later this year, fresh leaks hint that the upcoming Flip could support Samsung DeX. For the unversed, the ‘Desktop eXperience’ tool allows a Galaxy phone user to transform their Samsung device into a PC-like form factor for work via an external display.
SamMobile claims the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will debut with Samsung DeX support, unlike the present Flip phones. This would make the foldable phone the smallest Galaxy smartphone to have the functionality. If this turns out correct, Galaxy Z Flip 5 buyers will be able to connect an external monitor or TV via both wireless/wired mediums. DeX also supports input devices such as mice and a keyboard.
Samsung DeX comes in handy for users who wish to enjoy a desktop-like experience powered by their flagship Galaxy phone. At first glance, DeX UI seems like a lighter version of Microsoft Windows. It comprises a taskbar, shortcuts on the desktop, a notification panel and more features.
Due to space crunch on the small form factor of mobile, the DeX platform cannot run on Samsung smartphones and use an external display. However, it is available on compatible tablets, the report adds.
While the other foldable flagship – Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 have Samsung DeX support, the feature would be a good upgrade over the current Galaxy Z Flip 4. Meanwhile, here is a recap of the leaks concerning the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
The phone may run on OneUI 5.1.1 based on Android 13. It may support 25W charging. As for optics, the clamshell foldable might come with a 12MP + 12MP back camera setup. Further, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 could debut in July this year.
