Saif Ali Khan Stabbed Main Accused Arrested in Thane

The Mumbai Police have arrested Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahzad, the man accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra West residence on January 16.

The suspect, who worked at a pub in Thane, was apprehended on Sunday in Thane after a manhunt that involved tracking his movements through CCTV footage and distributing posters across Mumbai.

Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahzad, also known by multiple aliases including Bijoy Das and Vijay Das, reportedly confessed to the crime. Investigators are still probing whether he is an Indian national or possibly a Bangladeshi using a fake identity.

The breakthrough in the case followed extensive efforts by the police, who identified the attacker through footage showing him descending the stairs of Saif Ali Khan’s residence. The search extended beyond Mumbai, with developments in other states.

In Chhattisgarh’s Durg district, a suspect named Aakash Kailash Kannojia was detained after being intercepted on the Gyaneshwari Express train based on a tip from Mumbai Police.

Another man detained in Madhya Pradesh was later cleared of any connection to the stabbing.

The incident occurred during what appeared to be a burglary attempt. Saif Ali Khan, who was at home with his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their children, confronted the intruder after he was spotted in the bedroom of their younger son, Jehangir.

A scuffle ensued, leading to multiple stab wounds to the actor’s neck and spine. Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering.

The arrested suspect was brought to Bandra for further questioning and is scheduled to appear in court for police remand.

A press conference is planned for Sunday morning to provide more information about the investigation.
