Several fake applications have been sent to the BCCI using famous names from the world of cricket and politics including the likes of PM Narendra Modi, Sachin Tendulkar among others.

The BCCI has received over 3,000 applications for the post of Indian men’s cricket team head coach after having shared a Google form on its website to apply for the top job earlier this month.

Back then, several users on social media began sharing screenshots of them sending in their applications. Now, a report claims that the BCCI is having to sift through several fake applicants who have used famous names for the job.

Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah are among the famous names from the world of cricket and politics that have been used by the fake applicants.

“Last year too, the BCCI received such a response where imposters applied and the story is similar this time. The reason the BCCI had to invite applications on Google forms is it’s easy to scrutinise the names of applicants in one sheet,” The Indian Express quoted a BCCI official as saying.

The deadline for applying for the job ended on May 27.

Rahul Dravid, the current head coach, has decided against reapplying as he wants to spend time with his family now. His tenure will end with the conclusion of T20 World Cup 2024.

While there’s no official word on the names of genuine applicants for the top job, a host of high-profile former cricketers have been linked with the role.

Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman, Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming have reportedly been on the BCCI’s radar. However, recently BCCI secretary Jay Shah refuted reports claiming that there was unofficial talks with Ponting after the legendary Australian captain claimed to have had discussions regarding his potential interest into applying for the job during IPL 2024.

The term of the new coach will be for three-and-a-half years (July 1st 2024 to December 31st, 2027).

Among the several responsibilities mentioned by the BCCI on their Job Description for the role includes willingness “to meet work expectations and pressures associated with handling marquee athletes.”
