The Council of Central Ministers may approve the Polavaram Project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the end of next week.
The Council of Ministers will hold meetings on August 27th and 28th. Approval for Polvaram’s DPR is expected to be made during these meetings.

The DPR estimated that the entire first phase of the project would cost Rs. 30,426.95 crore. Currently, DPR successfully got approvals from the Polavaram Project Committee, Union Jal Shakti, Technical Support Unit, Revised Cost Committee and Investments Approval Committee.
Only approval from the Council of Ministers is needed now. As per the orders of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Union Finance Ministry will table this DPR in the Ministers Council’s meetings.

During his recent tour to Delhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu specially focussed on the approval of Polavaram’s DPR and met Union Minister of Jal Shakti of India, CR Patil. He also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and discussed the same.
If the DPR is approved, the central government will release Rs. 12,157.53 crore as the remaining amount has already been reimbursed.

Meanwhile, the state government is urging the central government to release these funds in advance, considering Andhra Pradesh’s current financial situation.
Since 2016, the central government has been in a contract with NABARD, borrowing funds as debt from NABARD to provide financial assistance to the Andhra Pradesh state government.
Therefore, the state government is requesting that the central government release the Rs. 12,157 crore in advance, which would help make the state’s financial situation more manageable.
