Rohit Sharma’s Split Identity: India’s Hero, MI’s Burden

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has once again become the centre of brutal trolling, this time due to his worse-than-average performance in the IPL while playing for the Mumbai Indians.

People are finding it extremely hard to believe that the Rohit Sharma currently opening for MI is the same one that smashed boundaries against an in-form NZ in the Champions Trophy final just a few days ago.

Looking at some stats, Rohit’s performance becomes comparable to the likes of Kyle Mayers, who has had 4 50+ scores in 13 innings, compared to Rohit’s 47 innings!

So it is only natural that questions about the legend’s future in IPL have reared their heads. Does Rohit Sharma really lose form while playing for MI, or is it a deliberate lack of effort and intent on the part of the ex-skipper?

While no one can know that for sure, one thing can be said with certainty. If a player of Rohit’s scale fails to consistently perform in the IPL, then it won’t be long before the franchise starts subtly looking sideways in search of better options.

It will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma manages to change the narrative with quality batting in the league, reaffirming his title of being the King of Mumbai anytime soon.
