Robert F Kennedy Jr addressed the controversy surrounding his endorsement of former President Donald Trump, responding to public criticism from his wife and other members of the Kennedy family. The issue came to light during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, where host Shannon Bream questioned Kennedy about the family drama following his endorsement.
Kennedy acknowledged that his endorsement had upset his family, particularly his siblings, who are deeply rooted in the Democratic Party.”My family is at the center of the Democratic Party,” Kennedy said. “I understand that they’re troubled by my decisions. I love my family. We were raised to debate fiercely and still love each other. They’re free to take their positions.”

The family’s disapproval was made clear in a letter released by five of Kennedy’s siblings—Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy—who criticized his endorsement as a “betrayal” of their family’s values. The letter expressed their support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, whom they described as representing the hope and shared vision their family has always championed.
Kennedy also discussed his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, who publicly expressed her discomfort with his decision. “She was very uncomfortable,” Kennedy admitted, acknowledging the strain his political choices have put on their relationship.

Despite the backlash, Kennedy stood by his decision, emphasizing the importance of being able to disagree while maintaining familial love and respect. “I think we all need to be able to disagree with each other and still love each other,” he concluded.
The endorsement has sparked significant discussion, particularly within the Kennedy family, who have long been associated with Democratic ideals.
