Reality Check In Just 4 months

Reality Check In Just 4 months

The results of the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections are almost out, and the people’s mandate has been delivered. Surprisingly, the exit poll results have been defied, as BJP is set to win in Haryana, and where everyone expected a hung assembly in Jammu & Kashmir, Congress and the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference are witnessing a dominant victory.

However, these are somewhat shocking results for Congress, especially after the Lok Sabha elections. It is already known that Congress’s INDI Alliance surprised everyone in the Lok Sabha elections, particularly by performing well in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

Congress believed that, given the results of the Lok Sabha elections, it would sweep the Haryana Assembly elections. The anti-incumbency factor was also widely promoted. They thought the support of the Jats would help them win the elections.

Congress made several promises, similar to those in Telangana and Karnataka. Even the exit polls predicted Congress’s dominant victory. Considering all these positive factors, celebrations began this morning at the AICC Headquarters in Delhi.

Initially, Congress was leading in Haryana, but as time passed, BJP surpassed Congress in various constituencies. Eventually, it became clear that the BJP would win once again and score a hat trick in Haryana.

As of now, BJP has won 42 seats and is leading in 6. On the other hand, Congress has won 34 and is leading in 3. So, it is evident that the BJP will cross the magic figure of 46 and form the government in Haryana once again.

In Jammu & Kashmir, the Congress formed an alliance with the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference. The counting has finished in the state. While the INDI Alliance won 48 of the 90 seats, BJP won 29.

However, without JKNC’s alliance, Congress would have lost in Jammu & Kashmir. On the other side, the BJP has performed better in the state compared to its performance in 2014.

Thus, people feel that this is a reality check for Congress, showing that without the support of its alliance partners, people aren’t interested in choosing Congress. Congress is facing this harsh reality just four months after the Lok Sabha polls.

Whether it was in Uttar Pradesh during the Lok Sabha polls or in Jammu & Kashmir during the Assembly polls, Congress performed well only with the support of its alliance partners.

Thus, the public feels that Congress is relatively weak without regional parties. They also opine that regional parties might have a significant influence during the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
