Rayalaseema, Nellore, & Anantapur: Good Signs For TDP

Rayalaseema, Nellore, & Anantapur: Good Signs For TDP

Telugu Desam Party’s Membership Drive is throwing some interesting results.

It looks like Chandrababu Naidu’s Special Focus on Rayalaseema is clearly working.

In the Assembly elections, TDP won 45 out of the 52 constituencies in Rayalaseema. The party also did a clean-sweep in the Nellore district.

In the Top 20 constituencies (Highest Membership), thirteen are from the Rayalaseema and Nellore district.

Rayalaseema is always a Reddy Stronghold. The area irrespective of the election trends elsewhere in the state, always had special support from Congress/YSR Congress.

In the 2014 elections where the YSR Congress lost, the party won 30 out of the total 52 seats in Rayalaseema. In the rest of the Andhra, the party managed to win 37 out of the 123 seats.

In the 2019 elections where the YSR Congress won, the party registered victory in a whopping 49 seats out of the total 52 seats in Rayalaseema.

Along with Rayalaseema, the Nellore district has always been a strong forte for the YSR Congress since its inception. It is always the case with Congress and the same has been passed on to YSR Congress after YSR’s demise.

In the 2014 elections when TDP won, the party could only manage three seats out of the ten in the district.

In 2019, the party drew a blank here.

Somehow Chandrababu Naidu managed to break the fort and is maintaining it as well going by the Membership.

Coming to Anantapur, the district has been a stronghold of the Telugu Desam Party since its inception. Even though Congress and YSR Congress maintained grip in the Rayalaseema area, Anantapur is one district that is always for TDP. But then, Jagan breached the fort in 2019.

Out of the fourteen seats in the erstwhile Anantapur district, TDP managed to win only two. TDP Senior leaders – the JC family and the Paritala family also bit dust very badly.

Only Balakrishna and Payyavula Keshav managed to win.

TDP made a stunning comeback in the 2024 elections. The party did a clean sweep in the district and also won the Anantapur and Hindupur Parliament seats.

The district is maintaining the same Tempo in TDP’s Membership Drive as well. There are six constituencies of Anantapur in the Top 20.

If the party manages to get equally good results in the forthcoming local elections, it will be a very alarming sign for the YSR Congress.
