Rape Attempt in MMTS, Hunt on For Culprit

A 23-yr-old woman had to jump off a moving MMTS to escape rape from a 25-yr-old male.

This incident has created furore and the security of women and girls on trains has become a point of discussion.

The incident brought back the issue of lack of security even on public transport. The victim was travelling in the Secunderabad-Medchal train when a male entered the compartment. He tried to force himself on her when she was alone in the compartment.

To avoid rape, the girl jumped from the moving train near Gundlapochampally sustaining serious injuries.

The incident occured around 8.15 pm. Due to severe injuries, she complained to the Government Railway Police the next day. The victim is a private employee from Anantapur.

She traveled from Medchal to Secunderabad to get her mobile display repaired. After getting it done, she took the train back to Medchal at 7.15 and was travelling in the ladies compartment.

After two women got out, a 25-yr-old male got into the compartment and tried to rape her. That’s when she jumped off. Passers-by saw her and took her to Secunderabad Gandhi Hospital.

GRP SP Chandana Deepti visited the victim. She later assured that the victim’s condition was stable. The police have formed into four teams to find the culprit. As there were no CCTVs, the police are finding it difficult to identify the person.

But the search is on and the police say they will soon find the culprit. The victim is confident she can identify the culprit if she sees him again.
