Raid 2 Big Success, Retro & HIT 3 Disappoint

The first week of May witnessed the release of some big films alongside a few small films. The lineup includes Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 alongside Nani’s Hit: The Third Case and Suriya’s Retro. There was also Mohanlal’s Thudarum.

Notably, Raid 2 has emerged as the winner in all aspects, collecting almost Rs. 102 crores in six days. The numbers have been up to the mark on weekdays due to the decent occupancy in theatres across India. Although Bhool Chuk Maaf is releasing this Friday, it should not lead to heavy competition.

On the other hand, Hit 3 also started well at the box office, and the weekend turned out to be beneficial. The final number stands at Rs. 65 crores after six days, and the film is expected to record around Rs. 80 crores in India. However, it is still being considered a disappointment based on the hype created.

However, Retro could not manage to become a big hit despite that the shows went housefull in Tamil Nadu on Day 1. The current situation has hinted that the film might not touch Rs. 70 crores in India, and the six-day collection currently stands at Rs. 58 crores.

The mixed response to Retro, with specific criticism towards the pacing was one of the reasons that led to the film’s underwhelming collections in India.

On the other hand, Tourist Family turned out to be a surprise hit with collections of almost Rs. 17 crores, which is decent considering that the film was made on a budget of only Rs. 4 crores. Mohanlal’s Thudarum has emerged as a blockbuster, collecting almost Rs. 100 crores.

The above-mentioned numbers are proof that good content can always attract audiences. For now, it seems like Suriya needs to rethink the kind of films that he is doing right now. The superstar needs a change and the people who are collaborating with him also need to focus on that.
