Rafael Nadal has shut down Alexander Zverev’s prediction that he will end his career at the French Open. In Melbourne, Zverev said he believes that Nadal is planning to retire after the French Open. Nadal, 36, has been struggling with injuries over the last few years but still managed to capture a record 14th French Open title last year.

“Unfortunately, I think Rafa will retire at Roland Garros. I don’t want it to happen, but I think he will have a great tournament, potentially win it and say goodbye,” Zverev said.

Nadal responds to Zverev’s prediction

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in six months.

I have a very good relationship with Zverev, but not enough to confess something like that to him. The reality is that I’m here to play tennis, try to have a great 2023, fight for everything that I have struggled throughout my career and I don’t think about my retirement.

You think about it week after week because that’s how you show me at every press conference. But I will answer the same every time you ask me,” Nadal said, per Eurosport. Since landing in Australia, Nadal has been asked multiple times about his retirement.

Two weeks ago, Nadal was asked directly if this was his last trip to Australia as a professional tennis player. “Last trip to Australia? No. As a professional, you never know, hopefully not. I mean, when you are at the age of 36 you never know when it’s going to be the last one,” Nadal said.

Meanwhile, Nadal is preparing to defend his Australian Open title. At the United Cup, Nadal suffered two defeats so he is winless going into the Australian Open. But the positive thing is that Nadal is healthy. Last year, Nadal was doubted going into the Australian Open but ended up winning the title. It remains to be seen if Nadal can defend his Australian Open title.
