Director Puri Jagannadh

Puri Jagannadh is one director who has cult following in the movie buffs. He is not a director who just gives rebellious attitude to his heroes, he also displays a self-attitude which always sends a right message without actually being arrogant.

In the initial part of his career, Puri is one director who is always ahead of his times. Right from his own styling to the styling of his actors and to their attitude and superb dialogues, Puri’s films were a fresh breeze.

But then, Puri Jagannadh has become a pale shadow of his glorious past. His recent release, Double Ismart is an indication of that.

He got Ram’s characterization right and that’s it about the film.

Everything about Double Ismart is a farce. Sanjay Dutt as Big Bull is an outdated idea of casting a Mumbai actor as villain. That idea lost its relevance many years ago and Puri repeated it in this film of 2024.

The idea of casting Jhansi in the mother role and then, bringing a new mother in the form of Pragathi – It is a joke on the concept of mother sentiment.

Puri in his prime used to be known for stylish martial arts action sequence. Remember the one in Allu Arjun’s Iddarammayilatho and compare it with the poorly composed first fight in Double Ismart. We can not stop being sorry.

And then, the South India – North India conflict that drops from the sky all of sudden. Where is that Puri who used to be always ahead of the times?

The Boka Track of Ali is the final nail in the coffin. It is an insult to the name of Puri Jagannadh or to Telugu Cinema for that matter. It is just bankruptcy of ideas and creativity.

Telugu Cinema earned lot of respect in other languages with quality content.

Puri was a director whose film (Pokiri) was remade in two most popular languages (Tamil and Hindi) with most popular Superstars of that industries. This was even before the idea of Pan-India films culture started. The same Puri has made Tollywood a butt of jokes on social media with this Boka Track.

Double Ismart is that kind of film which makes us angry if it is made with any other filmmaker. But Puri’s past makes us feel angry as well as sad.

Tragically, Puri is working hard to let down his fans and supporters.
