PSG vs Inter Miami LIVE: Score and goal updates from Club World Cup

PSG 1-0 Inter Miami

9 mins: This is all one-way traffic at the moment – Inter will need to make sure this doesn’t get ugly.

Lovely give and go between the PSG forwards nearly fashions another shooting opportunity – this time they’re denied.

GOAL! PSG 1-0 Inter Miami (Neves, 5′)

Dream start for PSG, nightmare for Inter Miami!

It’s simple stuff for PSG as Joao Neves goes unmarked at the back post and is picked out by Vitinha’s free-kick to head home!

Already, we’re seeing levels between these two teams.

PSG 0-0 Inter Miami

4 mins: SAVE! This could be a long night for Inter Miami – because this PSG front line is like nothing they have ever faced in the MLS.

Kvaratskhelia gets it on the left and goes on a mazy run into the box, beating two or three pink bodies with ease, before cutting it back to Barcola on the penalty spot.

Ustari is called into action and denies Barcola with an outstretched leg.

PSG 0-0 Inter Miami

1 min: Straight from kick-off, PSG hoof it out for an Inter goal kick. That was odd.

T-minus 10 minutes until kick-off!

We’re just 10 minutes away from kick-off in Atlanta as Lionel Messi’s Inter Milan face off against Champions League winners and tournament favourites Paris Saint-Germain.

Will it be a joyous reunion for Messi against his former club? Or will PSG demonstrate to the Argentinian exactly what kind of monster they’ve evolved into since his departure?

All the action from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, up next.

The biggest Club World Cup question is still unanswered – does anyone care?

In a sense, though, the Club World Cup depends upon a different kind of investment. Whatever the big financial figures, it needs buy-in: not from Fifa’s partners but from the part of the footballing family who are rarely consulted, the fans.

The Club World Cup is in a battle for hearts and minds and eyeballs. It is a matter if – and it is too early to draw definitive conclusions – people buy into it; if they invest their time, their hopes and their emotions.

Did Lionel Messi’s exit kickstart the ‘new PSG’?

Under Luis Enrique, PSG have experienced a complete shift in identity. From a club reliant on its superstars and thus fallible of falling victim to their egos and personal agendas, to the well-oiled machine and Champions League winners we now love to watch.

Messi fell into the former category. A front three of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr and himself struck fear into every defence on the planet – but all three would have felt they were bigger than the club. It was a sentiment lamented by the PSG fans, who expressed their displeasure with these footballing megastars repeatedly.

Messi’s quiet exit from PSG in 2023, followed by Neymar’s that same summer and Mbappe’s a year later, opened the door for PSG to rebrand, detoxifying their image and shifting into the powerhouse we know today.
