Producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who has made movies like Kabir Khan’s ‘83’ and Kangana Ranaut‘s ‘Thalaivi’, has unveiled plans of making a film on Durgawati Devi, the woman who inspired freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad. Induri has launched this film as part of a ‘Azad Hind’ film franchise and the movie will go on floors next year. The Chennai-based producer has also revealed that he plans to make a series of films based on freedom fighters that will release every year.

The first film will be titled ‘Veerangana Durgawati Devi’ and it will delve into the life of the lady revolutionary who actively participated in the armed revolution against the British Raj. She was the one who accompanied Bhagat Singh on the train after he escaped in disguise after killing the British Police officer John Saunders.

Durgawati who was popularly know as Durga Bhabhi during the freedom struggle, lived in anonymity in Ghaziabad after independence. She was running a school and passed away there at the age of 92 in 1999. There have been mentions of her character in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Rang De Basanti’ in which Soha Ali Khan played her part.

Vishnu Vardhan plans to rope in a big director for the film franchise after which the casting of the film will be done.
