The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha met in the new parliament building today at 1:15 PM and 2:15 PM respectively.
A special five-day session of the parliament began on Monday with a discussion on the parliament’s journey of 75 years. Eight bills were listed for this current ongoing session.
The sitting shifted to the new parliament building after a function in the central hall of the current building.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, JMM leader Shibu Soren and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi were invited to address the special function in Central Hall of Parliament as seniormost parliamentarians.
The new parliament building on Kartavya Path, the heart of Delhi, was opened by PM Modi. The building can seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber.
The Parliament session will end on Friday.

Women’s Quota Only By 2029? Exclusive Details Of New BillThe Women’s Reservation Bill is on the verge of becoming law after nearly three decades of stalling and discord. However, a 33 per cent quota for women in parliament and state legislatures, as promised by the proposed law, may come into force only by 2029, NDTV has learnt.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appealed to Rajya Sabha members to unanimously approve the women’s reservation bill – Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam – when it comes to the Upper House after being passed by Lok Sabha.
Speaking during the first sitting of Rajya Sabha in the new Parliament building, Modi said the bill will be taken up in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
“When the bill comes before you, I urge Rajya Sabha members to approve it unanimously,” PM Modi said.
The issue of reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies has been pending for several years.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Constitutional Amendment bill, Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, to reserve one-third of the seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women earlier in the day.

PM Modi addresses MPs in new Parliament building. Here are the highlights of his speech:
- We must forget all old bitterness as we make a new beginning. Whatever we do must be inspirational for the country and each of its citizens.

The Women’s Reservation Bill will be tabled in parliament today after nearly three decades of stalling and discord. However, 33 percent quota for women in parliament and state legislatures, as promised by the proposed law, may come into force only by 2029.
The quota will be implemented only after the first delimitation or redrawing of constituencies after the bill becomes law, according to details exclusively accessed by NDTV.
In a strong push for the Women’s Reservation Bill, which has been pending for decades, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described its passage as an “agni pareeksha”, or trial by fire, for MPs. The PM said this during the Cabinet meeting on Monday, where the bill was cleared, senior government officials have told NDTV.
The bill, which seeks to provide 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, will be introduced in Parliament by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday. Read here

The Congress’ parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said the women’s reservation bill “is ours”, amid speculation that the bill may be tabled in Parliament.
Lok Sabha’s senior most member Maneka Gandhi says, “This is a historic day today and I am proud to be a part of this historic moment. A bill to ensure the reservation of 33 per cent seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies was cleared by the Union cabinet on Monday evening, sources told NDTV. The government is yet to make an official announcement and skipped the customary briefing after the cabinet meet.
The meeting had spiked interest in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment earlier today that “historic decisions” will be taken in this special session.
A few key meetings held earlier added to the expectations — Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi met Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda.
Update- Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha members gather for group photograph hours before parliamentary proceedings shift to new Parliament building
- The Indian parliament, through an official notification today, made the historic move from the well-loved circular Lutyens building to the mammoth lion-capitol-topped triangular edifice on Central Vista that is seen as the emblem of a New India.
- Sources said after a photo session and a function in the Central Hall of the old parliament building, the Prime Minister will walk to the new Parliament House, carrying a copy of the Constitution. All the MPs will follow him on foot and later, meet at their respective chambers in the new parliament.
