Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi achieved a humongous victory in her first-ever elections. She is winning the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a huge majority of more than 4.1 lakh votes against CPI’s Satyan Mokeri.
This was Priyanka’s maiden appearance in any election. Until now, she was confined only as the campaigner. Only recently, she decided to contest from Wayanad, which was left empty when her brother Rahul Gandhi resigned from his post in order to continue as the Rae Bareli MP.

As per the latest data from the ECI’s website, Priyanka Gandhi secured 622338 votes, while Satya Mokeri got 2,11,407 votes. BJP’s Navya Haridas is in the third position with 1,09,939 votes.
Rahul Gandhi won this seat in April this year with a majority of 3.64 lakh. Priyanka crossed her brother’s majority mark comfortably. Rahul won the same seat in 2019 Elections with a majority of 4.31 lakh. It has to be seen if Priyanka beats this margin by the end of the counting.

Notably, the voting turnout of these by-elections (65%) is much less than the voter turnout for the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha General Elections.
With this significant victory, people are now doubting whether Priyanka will be the next heir of the Congress party. After Sonia, Congress tried making Rahul the heir but he failed to live up to the elections. Eventually, Congress had to conduct elections to choose an outsider as its president.
