Kalki 2898 AD has recently been in talks over rumours of getting nominated in the Best Visual Effects category at the Oscars 2025.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film experienced massive box-office success by blending futuristic themes with extraordinary visual effects. Kalki has gone on to become the 5th highest-grossing Indian film, with a net collection of ₹980 Cr.

Despite its success, the recent rumours regarding its entry into the Oscars have been debunked. According to sources, the film did not even make it to the list of top 26 contenders for the award.
With the official list being announced in December 2024, the chances of Kalki being able to make it to the list are very low. The film also lost the race for the 97th Academy Awards to ‘Laapata Ladies’.

The public reaction to the matter has been appreciative of the film. One user on social media said, “Oscar or not, Prabhas and the entire Kalki team delivered a visual masterpiece. We don’t need Western validation!”
While Kalki may not be nominated for the Oscars, it is no doubt that the film is a huge blockbuster not just in India, but around the world.
