NEW DELHI: In another statement of the BJP leadership’s endorsement of ‘The Sabarmati Report‘, PM Narendra Modi joined his cabient, BJP leaders and NDA contingents to watch the special screening of the film based on the communal conflagration triggered by killing of 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks.
“Joined fellow NDA MPs at a screening of ‘The Sabarmati Report’. I commend the makers of the film for their effort,” the PM said in a post on X, sharing pictures from the special screening at the GMC Balyogi auditorium. Home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president J P Nadda and other NDA leaders joined Modi at the screening. The presence of NDA MPs appeared significant, considering that the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) left the combine over its disagreement with BJP over 2002 riots.
The film, starring Vikrant Massey, is based on the burning of the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express near Godhra station in Gujarat on Feb 27, 2002, its account diverging from the narrative about the subsequent large-scale communal riot being a premediated conspriacy of Sangh Parivar. This was PM Modi’s second praise for the film for bringing out the “truth”.
In response to a post on X sharing the trailer of the film, PM Modi had recently commented, “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it…”
