Lin eases to victory on the judges’ scorecards

Three of the judges had scored the bout 30-27 in Lin’s favour, with the other two making the score 29-28.

Lin assured of an Olympic medal

Lin did the work in the opening two rounds and successfully staved off Staneva in the third.

It is a unanimous points victory for Lin.

The top seed is assured of a bronze at worst having advanced to the semi-final stage of the competition.

Staneva appeared to give up in the final seconds as Lin darted around the ring.

She knew the contest was over.

Lin poised to secure a semi-final spot

The judges like that second round from Lin, who looks to be heading into the semi-finals and a guarnteed medal in Paris.

Steneva needs to have a big round if she is able to advance.

    A close opening round

Lin is given the nod by three judges in the first round with Staneva favoured by two.

Worth mentioning that the medal stripped from Lin at the World Championships last year was ultimately awardded to the Bulgarian.

Lin Yu-ting’s boxing quarter-final is underway

As mentioned Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-ting is out for her boxing bout.

Lin faces Bulgaria’s Svetlana Staneva in the quarter-finals.

The bell sounds and the contest is underway.

Women’s 100m champion Alfred cruises through 200m heat

No time for a rest for Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred.

Having won her nation’s first Olympic medal by winning the women’s 100m metres title last night, Alfred is back in action in the women’s 200m heats this morning.

She has cruised through her heat, easing down to take victory in a time of 22.41 seconds.

Britain’s Daryll Neita, Dina Asher-Smith and Bianca Williams are all coming up.

    Half-time in the hockey

Despite having a man sent off, India took the lead in the men’s hockey quarter-final against Britain through Harmanpreet Singh.

Team GB have levelled the match ahead of half-time through Lee Morton.

Britain will hope their extra man pays off in the second half as they bid for a semi-final spot.

On that note, I will point you in the direction of Mike Keegan’s piece detailing some of the questions that need to be answered in the boxing controversy.

This includes details of the banned federation – the IBA – who have been involved in the tests as well as their controversial president.

Boxer at centre of gender row set to compete

The boxing at Paris 2024 has been overshadowed by the controversy surrounding Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-ting being allowed to compete.

The two boxers were disqualified by the International Boxing Association from their World Championships last year after allegedly failing to meet gender eligibility criteria.

The IBA – who have been stripped of recognition to run Olympic boxing – have not provided details of these tests.

Khelif has secured a medal by reaching the semi-finals of her event, while Lin is in action in around 20 minutes time in the 57kg featherweight division.

Team GB in hockey quarter-final action

Britain’s men’s hockey team are currently in action against India in the quarter-finals.

The match is currently goallless in the second quarter, but there has been some drama.

India’s Amit Rohidas has been shown a red card after being adjudged to have flicked his stick into the face of Britain’s Will Calnan.

The video referee determined that his act was deliberate leading to a red card.

India are furious, but that could be a big advantage for Team GB.

Team GB – ones to watch

If you have a solely Team GB focus at these Games, then allow me to point you in the direction of some possible medals.

Tommy Fleetwood is very much in contention as the men’s golf event enters the final round. Fleetwood is currently in bronze medal position, one shot off the lead.

In shooting, Amber Rutter will be looking to qualify for the women’s skeet final, which will then be held in the afternoon. Fresh from their bronze medal in the team event, Britain’s equestrian will have further hopes of dressage success in the individual event.

Lizzie Deignan leads Britain’s women’s cycling team in the road race, while Becky Downie is in action later in the gymnastics on the uneven bars.

Team GB will also have high hopes in the men’s 4x100m relay swimming final later tonight. There is also the small matter of the men’s 100m in the athletics, with Zharnel Hughes and Louie Hinchliffe going in the semi-finals.

Who better to tee up the day than Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave.

In the latest edition of Olympics Breakfast, Redgrave discusses Team GB’s rowing success in Paris.

Team GB finished with three rowing golds, two silvers and three bronze medals in Paris, having come away from the last Olympics without a gold.

He also looks ahead of today’s action with potential medal opportunities in golf, dressage, swimming, cycling and even in the 100m.
