Paris 2024 Olympics: All three British women reaching 100m semi-finals and Josh Kerr wins his 1500m heat as the athletics gets underway with Keely Hodgkinson to come – as Team GB win rowing and diving gold
It was quite the thud when she hit the mat, and perhaps there was a deeper thud in her heart, but at least she appears uninjured and sprightly.
The final table in the women’s trampoline final
Here’s the table, for reference.
The athletes had about 15 minutes between qualifying and coming out for the final. Things happen quick in trampolining. Kings and queens are crowned in moments.
Watch: The stunning routine that secured Bryony Page gold
More than a point higher than she scored in qualifying. This is the gift Page gave us this afternoon in Paris. So high, so precise, so bold. At the age of 33, Page has a first Olympic gold.
Celebrations in full flow for Bryony Page
She’s holding her face in her hands and giggling. Bryony Page can’t quite believe it.
Soak in this moment. She looks in disbelief, but yes, this is happening. Rarely do such moments come around.
Neutral athlete Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya and Canada’s Sophiane Methot are second and third respectively.
Bryony Page claims gold on the trampoline!
Jubilant scenes in the Bercy Arena as Bryony Page wins Olympic gold!
Hu Yicheng landed OFF the mat in a bizarre moment and only scored 11.790. Commiserations to her.
The crowd are going wild for Page. We Found love by Rihanna is blasted out.
Bryony Page takes pole position for gold with HUGE score
Bryony Page has been awarded a whopping 56.480 and moves into first place with just one gymnast left. Only Hu Yicheng of China can deny her now.
Page’s mesmeric performance is miles ahead of the next-best.
Silver in Rio, bronze in Tokyo… is Page finally on for an Olympic gold?
Watch: Keely Hodgkinson meets Dame Kelly Holmes
A good old chinwag between two athletics icons – can we call Keely that already? – at the side of a running track. What’s not to love?
Including: a surprising fact you didn’t know about Hodgkinson, how many tattoos Holmes has, and the career our young gold medal hope was considering at the age of 16.
A solid start for Carlos Alcaraz
Over in the punishing heat of the Roland-Garros Stadium and Carlos Alcaraz is leading in the early throes of his semi-final against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
He leads by three sets to one, having already broken his opponent, and they’re contesting a deuce as we speak.
Big cheers for Bryony Page
Bryony Page is up soon in the women’s trampoline gymnastics final.
With a silver and bronze from the past under her belt, she’s in with a shout for a medal.
A warm welcome from the crowd for the 33-year-old. You could even say a bouncing reception…
Taking part in an Olympic 100m race is a lifetime dream for many – doing so as a marathon running could very well be considered a dream of the pipe variety.
But not for Sharon Firisua, who stepped up in Paris and… this happened.
Up next, the trampoline gymnastics final
One of the Team GB athletes, Bryony Page, has qualified for the final, but the second, Isabelle Songhurst, missed out on a spot in the medal competition.
That kicks off at 12.50pm, and could be a strong chance at a medal for Team GB, and current world champion Page.
A sight no one wants to see at Stade de France this morning, with South Sudan’s Lucia Moris unable to finish her 100m preliminary heat.
You can read more on the accident, below.
Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani are the first women’s doubles tennis finalists!
The Wimbledon and Roland Garros finalist Paolini is guaranteed a medal in Paris – and perhaps the chance to bury her major final demons – alongside partner Errani. They knocked out Linda Noskova and Karolina Muchova of Czechia very handily indeed, 6-3, 6-2, on the heels of downing Katie Boulter and Heather Watson of Team GB yesterday.
The other semi-final, between Spain and the Individual Neutral Athletes, will get started this afternoon, with more great tennis to come to: Carlos Alcaraz versus Felix Auger Aliassime and Novak Djokovic versus Lorenzo Musetti in a Wimbledon rematch the two semi-finals, and Iga Swiatek playing for bronze versus Anna Schmeidlova in the women’s singles.
Murray-slayers Paul and Fritz will also be back in action in the men’s doubles, facing Australians Matthew Ebden and John Peers.
Disappointment for Team GB’s Morgan Lake
The high-jumper failed to make the cut for the final during this morning’s qualifying.
She gave a remarkably thoughtful and reflective interview with the BBC earlier today:
A hard one to take. Mostly just feeling pretty sorry for everyone who’s supported me: my friends, my family, everyone here.
Not how I wanted to end this Olympic campaign. It’s not been the best season this year, but I thought I’d ground into form for this championship but… I think maybe I got distracted (by the occasion).
The track is amazing, new spikes and everything felt great, so not quite sure what happened. My mind was maybe racing to Sunday.
Bad news for people who use the word ‘aura’ as a full sentence
Viral shooting sensation Kim Ye-ji of South Korea, who won silver in the women’s 10m air pistol, is having a trying time at Chateauroux in rapid qualifying for the 25m pistol.
She currently sits in 27th, with the top eight making it through to the final.

Why not relive Craig and Grant’s sensational race with Mail Sport’s report?
A moving tribute to Murray inside Team GB HQ
Craig and Grant’s glittering gold brings Team GB’s haul up to 23
That’s seven golds, eight silvers, and eight bronzes, and puts them sixth in the table.
China – 26
United States – 38
France – 27
Australia – 19
Japan – 16
As a reminder, there’s different weightings per colour medal around an athlete’s neck. As you can probably tell, some Americans aren’t so keen on the current way of doing things.
Week one almost down, one more to go, and Paris has already proved out of this world when it comes to dazzling athleticism and unbelievable heroism.
Here, Mail Sport runs through some of the most amazing moments of the Games so far. Have a gander below – and see what we’ve missed.
Dina Asher-Smith is in high spirits talking to Eurosport
I’m good, I’m really excited to be here. The job is to come out, qualify, and then I’m in the semi-finals tomorrow.
On whether her move to the US has changed her outlook:
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very much a London girl, but I think getting to experience different cultures, different ways of life is important.
The feeling there is ‘the sky’s the limit’.
There’s a lot of British people here this morning. I’ve just had so much fun preparing for this, and it feels great to be a third Olympic games. It’s amazing.
Mail Sport’s David Coverdale is at Stade de France, taking in an electric morning of athletics
All three British women are into the 100m semi-finals. Daryll Neita was particularly impressive, winning her heat in 10.92sec, just 0.02sec off her personal best. Imani-Lara Lansiquot and Dina Asher-Smith also safely through.
The atmosphere has been incredible here. Almost 80,000 fans here for a morning session. The biggest Olympic crowds in a morning since London 2012.
Breaking: Team GB have their rowing GOLD! Grant and Craig put in a dominant shift in Paris
They missed the medal in Tokyo by 0.01seconds, but they’re on song three years later – that is terrific from Craig and Grant!
Romania must content themselves with silver, and Greece win bronze.
Team GB leading in the women’s lightweight double sculls
The heavy favourites of Grant and Craig hold the lead after the midway point, tracked closely Romania, with Ireland down in fifth.
They’re looking exceptional heading into the final 500m…
Lansiquot and Asher-Smith both qualify for the 100m semi-finals
Lansiquot finished third in her heat, and Asher-Smith second, just edged out of first place by Ewa Swoboda of Poland.
All three Brits through, then – how many make the final?
An emotional interview from Wynne-Griffith and George
Probably not in their top 10 experiences to relive again, this chat with the BBC.
A final word for the diving from Ian Herbert
Thrilling sixth jump but it’s China gold, Mexico silver and GB bronze. Laugher and Harding performed an immense last dive, scoring 94.62 and leaving the Mexicans with a lot of pressure – needing a 90 point score – but they delivered an even bigger dive with their most complicated delivery to clinch silver. A superb and competitive contest.
A famous face in the Irish crowd at Vaires-sur-Marne
Dara O’Brian will no doubt be delighted by Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan’s gold medal-winning performance in the lightweight men’s double sculls mere moments ago.
And there’s still the women’s to come – Casey and Cremen for Ireland, and Craig and Grant for Team GB-watchers.
Daryll Neita is lightning-quick in her heat
The first of the British women – Imani Lansiquot and Dina Asher-Smith still to come – steps up for her 100m heat, and scythes through the pack, coming from behind to clock her fastest time of the year!
10.92secs is all it takes for her to book her place in the semi-final.
Breaking: BRONZE for Team GB as Laugher and Harding make it four medals in four for British diving
It’s the best Games EVER for Great British diving, as the pair pull off an expert tricky final dive to cement their place on the podium.
But Mexico and China proved too strong – they take silver and gold respectively.
It’s coming down to the wire in the diving, says Ian Herbert
British boys nail their tricky fifth dive and score higher than the new threat, the Mexico. But with one jump to go it’s 1. China 2. Mexico 3. GB and Mexico have their potentially highest scoring jump to come. A medal looks likely for GB but it could be bronze. We’re now starting the sixth and final dive.
The roiling debate over the eligibility of Imane Khelif’s inclusion in the women’s boxing shows no sign of abating – and Lin Yu-Tin, who was similarly disqualified by the IBA earlier this year, will fight later today.
In an exclusive interview with Mail Sport, Savannah Marshall weighs in on how both women – Khelif and opponent Angela Carini – have been let down by the IOC’s decision to let Khelif compete in Pari.
You can leaf through the discussion below.
Sha’Carri Richardson’s Olympic journey begins at Stade de France
Team USA’s spectacular 100m hopeful is the superstar in the first heat this morning, and she cruises to first place well ahead of the pack – despite a brief lag as she appeared to reattach her number onto her shorts mid-race.
No muss, no fuss, from the heavy favourite in Paris.
WATCH: Wynne-Griffith and George come achingly close
A huge comeback from the Croatians to break British hearts.
Here come the Mexicans, notes Ian Herbert
Didn’t see this one coming. An immense fourth dive from the Mexicans has propelled them into the lead and pushed Britain back to fourth. Now it’s that fifth round I mentioned with the high level difficult level for Team GB. Much may rest on this dive for Laugher and Harding. Tune in now!
Meanwhile, Ian Herbert says it’s still all to play (dive) for at La Defense
It’s starting to hot up now. The British boys have deliberately set themselves more difficult dives than some of the others to up the points potential. And they’ve flown through a tough third dive, outscoring the Chinese for the first time and closing the gap.
Still in silver medal position. The Americans had a nightmare third dive – which only goes to show how fine the margins are. If you’re watching this live – look out for the Brits’ fifth dive – harder than anything the Chinese will attempt
Breaking: Team GB hearts are broken as they’re left with silver – and Croatia win at the last!
That is agonising for Wynne-Griffith and George, but in the final few metres, the Sinkovic brothers’ experience told, and they stole a march on the Team GB boat.
A silver medal is nothing to be sniffed at, but after leading for most of the race, this will sting a little.
Romania are edging closer to Team GB
… with the Croatian pair also smelling blood in the water and moving closer and closer to the leaders.
The toll is beginning to take on Romania, and Team GB still hold the lead by half a length, but this extends as they enter the final 500m.
They’re ahead by three-quarters of a length! Can they swipe it at the last?
Can Wynne-Griffith and George nab rowing gold?
Setting off now are Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George, Team GB’s men’s pair hopefuls.
They’re well-fancied this morning, and ease out in a composed fifth place.
Can Wynne-Griffith and George become the first British men to claim gold since Pinsent and Redgrave?
At the 500m mark, they’re ahead now, and keeping world-record pace.
Laugher and Harding have a shot at silver, notes Ian Herbert
Our boys jump into second place after a second dive but the Chinese superiority really is laughable. They’re eight points clear already. We’re relying on a spectacular fail from them – and that doesn’t tend to happen!
Only the best for an Olympian’s equipment
Chauffeur-driven javelin – pourquoi pas?
Hopefully Phryge, the Olympic mascot, was taken out first.
Mail Sport’s Ian Herbet is watching the diving at La Defense
And he has moderately good news for Brit-watchers on the progress of the Team GB pair.
A solid start for Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding in the synchronised 3m diving event. Joint third behind the China and Italy after the first of eight jumps. But it’s already clearly a fight for silver and bronze, since the Chinese are already four points ahead and in a league of their own.
Josh Kerr kicks off busy morning for British action
The two-time World Champion – and Team GB athletics team captain in Paris – is off to the races in his opening 1500m heat, where he books a spot in the next round courtesy of the smoothest of runs, which sees him finish first in the pack.
A statement of intent at Stade de France!
A message from Andy Murray
Last night saw the curtain finally fall on two-time Olympic champion Murray’s miraculous tennis career, as he and Dan Evans were knocked out of the men’s doubles by two players who can’t count on a warm reception at Wimbledon 2025, Americans Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz.
Always at his best playing for his country, Murray sent Team GB followers a little message of thanks for their enduring support.
Breaking: Adam Peaty is OUT of the 4x100m medley relay heats
Team GB confirm that the swimmer, who was diagnosed with Covid on Monday in the wake of claiming his 100m breaststroke silver medal, will not take part in the heats today.
That being said, Peaty could yet come in for the final, which will take place on Saturday evening, should Team GB qualify.
Welcome to Day Seven!
How fast has the first week gone? A slew of medals handed out, an overwhelming amount of spectacular moments… and the athletics hasn’t even started yet.
But that ends today, as we get underway in track and field, with a number of big British hopes preparing to begin their Olympic journeys in Paris.
Let’s get underway, then!
