Education overseas is always an option for graduates in India who want to pursue higher studies. Irrespective of the stream they take up, the students are always ready to pursue higher education in foreign countries.
In this context, Indians have the four most preferred countries: the USA, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

Considering the quality of life, education, and employment opportunities, Indians show interest in studying in the countries mentioned above. Lately, countries like Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Ireland, Singapore, Russia, the Philippines, France, and New Zealand have also become popular among Indian students.
A report titled “Indian Student Mobility Report 2023-24,” released by University Living Accommodation Pvt Ltd, highlights that in 2019, around 10.90 lakh Indian students were studying abroad, which increased to 11.80 lakhs by 2022. It is estimated that the number will reach 15 lakhs by next year.

At the same time, Indian students spent approximately Rs.8.10 lakh crore on foreign education in 2019. It grew by 8% to Rs.8.98 lakh crore in 2022. It is again estimated that the expenditure will reach Rs. 5.86 lakh crore by 2025.
The students from Maharashtra, Punjab, and the Telugu states show a great interest in pursuing higher education in foreign countries. Around 37% of the total students going abroad are from these states (12.5% each from AP&TG, Maharashtra and Punjab).

Delhi, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu students constitute 8% each of the total students travelling abroad for higher education.
