Ahmedabad: As many as 2,560 students, who were allotted seats for postgraduate medical admission under the All India Quota, opted to forfeit their deposits and not confirm their admissions. The deposits ranged from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2 lakh. As a result, the admission committee managing the All India Quota earned Rs 7 crore from these forfeitures.

The admission committee sources revealed that students forfeited Rs 25,000 for unconfirmed seats in govt colleges, while the amount for private college seat forfeitures was Rs 2 lakh.

The postgraduate medical courses, including MD and MS, underwent three admission rounds. The All India Quota seat allocation was done in the first three rounds, with students receiving colleges according to their preferences. However, 2,560 students declined to confirm their admissions, resulting in seats falling vacant.

Approximately 100 students from Gujarat were among those who surrendered their deposits under the All India Quota. The state completed three rounds of postgraduate medical admissions, with 71 seats remaining vacant after the third round.
