It is no secret that betting apps have become an all too big problem in India, as well as around the world. Recently, a tragic incident came to light in which a man had lost all his money, and was neck-deep in debt, ₹96 Lakhs to be precise, due to losing all his money on these apps.
This problem becomes ten-fold when we include the fact that famous cricketers like Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and many others are among those promoting these vile apps. These are some big names in their fields, and with their work, have garnered the public’s respect and trust.

So when such celebrities and sportspersons promote gambling apps and tobacco products, they are projecting their influence on a huge number of people, who without thinking twice, follow whatever their idols are telling them to follow. This often leads to neck-deep debts and tobacco-induced sickness like cancer.
There are many prominent names who are guilty of this. MS Dhoni is often seen promoting apps like Winzo, Dream11, etc. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma too promote these kinds of apps. Not only that, cricketers like Virendra Sehwag and Suni Gavaskar openly promote tobacco products using the deception of “Surrogate advertising”.
