Manvat Murders OTT

The true crime genre can now boast of another collection in its already huge basket as Manvat Murders Season 1, directed by Ashish Bende, has made its release on Sony LIV. The plot of the series revolves around the real murders that shook the town of Manvat in Maharashtra, during the 1970s.

Based on Ramakant Kulkarni’s book ‘Footprints on the Sand of Time’, the series stars Ashutosh Gowariker in the lead role along with notable names like Sonali Kulkarni, Sai Tamhankar, Makarand Anaspure, and Kishore Kadam.

While the reviews have mostly been positive, checking all the boxes expected from a crime thriller like police investigations, suspects, and heinous motives, the series seems to be suffering from a major pacing problem.

Viewers have complained that after a point the series starts to feel deliberately stretched out, with the buildup to the suspense being extremely slow, almost at a crawling pace at times. Reviews say that it becomes quite difficult to remain seated till the 6th episode, after which there is a sudden change of pace, leading to too many things suddenly being crammed till the climax.

Users on social media have expressed their opinions regarding the series. One user on X said that the movie felt “gripping in parts but dragged out”. Another user on Reddit complained about the underwhelming buildup of suspense.

While the plot of the movie has been criticized, the notable performances of the actors, particularly Sai Tamhankar and Kishore Kadam have garnered significant praise from the viewers, making it an overall balanced watch with a strong acting performance but mediocre execution.
