A shocking murder in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked debate about the impact of violent OTT content. A football player, inspired by the popular web series Mirzapur, killed his live-in partner using a razor blade, mimicking a scene from the show.
The victim, 25-year-old Anjali (also known as Akanksha), was in a live-in relationship with Mohit Saini, a footballer. Police revealed that Mohit, along with his friend Omkar, planned the murder after Anjali opposed Mohit’s decision to marry someone else. The two slit her throat and dumped her body in a dry pond.

According to the police, Mohit admitted being influenced by Mirzapur, which is known for its graphic violence and crime-filled storylines. He purchased the blade specifically to replicate a murder scene from the series.

Many people are now questioning whether shows like Mirzapur glorify violence and encourage real-life criminal behavior. Some are even calling for stricter regulation or censorship of OTT platforms to limit the portrayal of extreme violence.
