One person was killed and nine others sustained injuries after an unidentified aircraft reportedly crashed in Aklian Kalan village of Punjab’s Bathinda district on the intervening night of May 6 and 7.
The deceased has been identified as Govind, a native of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a local hospital, according to officials.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 1.30 a.m., when a loud sound startled residents, prompting many to rush toward the suspected crash site. “I heard a loud noise at around 1.30 in the night. As people rushed towards the site, an explosion occurred in which several of them were injured,” said a resident.
Local police and defence personnel subsequently cordoned off the area. There has been no official confirmation on the nature of the crash or the origin of the aircraft. Authorities at the district level have declined to comment on the incident.
The injured were initially admitted to the local civil hospital. One of the victims was later referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bathinda, said a government official on condition of anonymity.
An investigation is likely to be initiated, though official details remain scarce at this stage.
