NRI Student Slams Indian Work Culture: Justified?

A law student’s recent post on social media has sparked a heated debate about work culture and quality of life in India. After spending six months in Europe, she shared her frustration over long working hours, low pay, and lack of personal time in India.

“You work past 12 AM daily, earn peanuts, and aren’t respected. You have no time for yourself. How have we been living like this?” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Her post resonated with many, who shared similar stories of burnout. However, critics pointed out that work culture varies by industry, employer, and personal choice.

Some also highlighted the difference between European and Indian workplaces, noting that while Europe values work-life balance, not all jobs there are stress-free.

In a follow-up, the student addressed broader issues like pollution and infrastructure, stating, “I’d take clean air and better infrastructure over Blinkit/Zomato any day.”

This led to mixed reactions, with some defending the economic realities of India, where poor infrastructure and environmental issues compound the challenges workers face.

While European economies provide better resources for work-life balance, the comparison is not entirely fair.

India’s workforce, especially in tech and services, often faces long hours due to the country’s rapid economic growth and infrastructure challenges. The debate underscores a need for better working conditions, healthier lifestyles, and a reevaluation of priorities in India’s evolving economy.
