An Indian-origin priest who was accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in Canada is now nearly absolved of all the charges.
Arul Savari, serving as a priest in Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba for six years, was arrested last year in May 2023 facing charges of sexual assault of a minor. On the first day of trial, the 9-year-old testified on Tuesday and gave a detailed account of the incident.

However, after cross-examination by the defense lawyer, they were able to prove that there were holes in the girl’s narrative. While the court acknowledges that the child might have been flustered by the phrasing of the questions, they state that all witnesses are well-prepared by the prosecution,
Hence, as there was not enough evidence against the NRI priest, the court temporarily suspended the sexual assault charges against him. This means he is almost acquitted and will not be put on trial until the prosecution presents some new evidence.

Savari lost his role as the priest following his arrest and there is no word if he will be reinstated after this latest development. Nonetheless, the truth behind the case seems to be grim and remains in the air.
