Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of vice president Kamala Harris, took to Instagram on Saturday to deny rumors about her mental health following Harris’s presidential election loss. She refuted claims that she had been hospitalised due to a breakdown.
“There’s a rumor about me having a mental breakdown and being checked into a hospital. Not true. Also, f–k you if you’re out there spreading that. There’s nothing wrong with showing emotion and crying. Anyone who says otherwise probably needs a good cry,” Emhoff wrote in her post.
The rumors arose after Emhoff’s emotional reaction during Harris’s concession speech. Emhoff was seen crying at the event, which took place at Howard University. In her Instagram response, she included a photo of herself with her dog, seemingly contradicting the circulating narratives.
Emhoff also stressed the importance of mental health, saying, “I’ve struggled with my mental health my whole life, and I’m not ashamed of it.”
Kamala Harris married Douglas Craig Emhoff, an American lawyer, on August 22, 2014. Emhoff is the daughter of Doug Emhoff and his first wife, film producer Kerstin Mackin. She has previously used her social media platform to promote various causes, including fundraising for Palestinian aid.
