FIFA World Cup Final Between Argentina And France Today
Argentina will face 2018 champions France in the World Cup final to be held on Sunday, December 18, with kickoff at 8.30 p.m. IST (1500 GMT). The 80,000-capacity Lusail Iconic Stadium, which is 15km north of central Doha and the largest venue for the tournament, will host the World Cup title clash.
Argentina beat Croatia 3-0 in the semi-finals, with Lionel Messi coolly putting away a spot kick in the 34th minute to open the scoring before Julian Alvarez found the net on either side of halftime.
The third-place playoff between the losing semifinalists Croatia and Morocco took place on December 17 at the Khalifa International Stadium where Croatia beat Morocco 2-1.
Meanwhile, around 14,000 police officers will be deployed across France to guarantee security during the World Cup final.
The security deployment will largely be made in Paris, which is expecting huge crowds in the event of victory.
Champs-Elysees avenue, where the supporters celebrated during France’s previous World Cup wins in 1998 and 2018, with 600,000 people cheering and dancing there four years back, will be closed to traffic on Sunday. A total of 2,750 officers will be stationed in the vicinity.
PM Modi To Visit Poll-Bound Meghalaya And Tripura
PM Modi is set to visit poll-bound Tripura and Meghalaya to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of various projects worth over ₹6,800 crore.
These projects will cover several sectors, including housing, road, agriculture, IT, tourism, hospitality, and telecom.
In an official statement, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that PM Modi will also take part in the golden jubilee celebration of the North Eastern Council and attend its meeting in Shillong.
According to Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, PM Modi will land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport at 2.15pm and be received by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Devvarma, Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya, Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb and Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura.
After a welcome ceremony at the airport, the prime minister’s convoy will reach Swami Vivekananda ground, where he will be addressing a public meeting.
